Cup of tea

The funny thing with tea…

Thank heavens for microwaves, as they’ve saved many a cup of tea from the horrid state known as room temperature, but why is it never possible to enjoy the last sip of tea from the bottom of the cup before it gets cold? It might help matters if I’d use a slightly smaller mug now and then, but the big purple mug does such a nice job keeping my fingers warm....

Happy Turkey Day!

Thanksgiving is a day for family; it’s also a day for friends, and let’s not forget that it’s a day for food. Having grown up in a southern household, Thanksgiving was a day of excess when it came to food. My mother believed in turkey dressing (not stuffing) and gravy. She took great pride in crafting both with great skill. She also believed in the power of sage, and I must...

Stash Vanilla Chai Decaf Tea

This is what happens when…

By the time you reach forty, there are a few things that really need to be done your way. Somehow in the nature of my rearing, I developed a fondness for tea. Frequently, my tea of choice is Earl Grey or Irish Breakfast, but more often I’ve found myself enjoying Vanilla Chai or some variant thereof. This was all fine and dandy until my body decided a couple years ago that caffeine just...

Thanksgiving violation

I get it. The holiday season is upon us, and consumerism is going to swallow us whole. I am as guilty as anyone for enjoying the hunt of shopping. But seriously, I am disillusioned by the developments of this year. Many of the big retailers are having huge sales on Thanksgiving day. I find this abhorrent for both those who have to man the cash registers and those who would spend...

Bucky strikes on a rare bit of wisdom.

Smelementals…

I start every morning with a trip through my favorite comics… And on great days, I finish it by having another chuckle at the funniest ones… PVP Online Bucky’s self-proclaimed enlightenment has been pretty amusing courtesy an utter lack of enlightened though thus far… It was an odd treat to see him hit upon true wisdom today. It seems Satchel finds wisdom far more often. Get Fuzzy

Logan and Laramie settle in…

Cats don’t waste much time settling in to their environment. These guys have taken over our home and hearts… Although we have limited their roaming to the upstairs of the house courtesy one 48 inch tall baby gate. We’ll see how long that works…

Laramie and Logan

Two adorable balls of fluff…

Following the sudden departure of our dear, sweet cat, Cayenne, we went to the pound today to pick up Laramie. Turns out he had a brother who also wanted to come home with us. Apparently, we have “sucker” tattooed on our foreheads. You’d think we have noticed by now…

Smell memory

If a picture is worth a thousand words it has nothing on the simplest of smells. Many a day I’ve been pedaling along a country road and caught a whiff of some tree or flower or weed and been transported back home. When I visit the piney woods of east Texas I’m no longer in Texas but back pedaling a mountain bike through the forests in Research Triangle Park. Today, I...

The new comfort food

Having grown up a southerner, comfort food means mac & cheese, pot roast, meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and all the like. Yet, now, my comfort food is a big bowl of curry chicken rice noodle soup from Pho Que Huong. How do these things happen?
